Michael Kors: Style + Affordablity

Can you still get a designer name brand, while on a budget? Surprisingly, the answer is yes! I stopped into Michael Kors today and needless to say, I could purchase everything from that store. I found some amazing items, like the Hamilton Tote, which is number one on my list of Michael Kors must-haves. Models Frida Gustavsson and Karlie Kloss have been photographed carrying this lovely bag to and from their runway shows. Not only do I need a sensible and chic bag that will never go out of style, but the Hamilton Tote fits right in my budget. This classic handbag is perfect for anyone that has a clean and simple style. You will be surprised at how many ways you can wear it. The Hamilton Tote comes with an additional chain strap to wear on your shoulder, or you can choose to wear it over your wrist. Trust me, you won't feel guilty after this purchase.

2) My next Michael Kors must-have  item is the metallic gold wrap belt.  Metallic colors are a huge trend this season, whether it be bronze, silver or gold, these shades will add sparkle to any outfit. You can pair this belt with boyfriend fit ankle jeans and a black blouse. Add the gold belt to give your look a bit of luxe and you're ready for an afternoon with friends. For only $45, why not pick up this fun accessory?

3) On to my other favorite, the 'Parker' Wedge Pump. I tried these shoes on yesterday and I was shocked at how comfortable they were. How often do you find a designer wedge that is affordable, too? I'm not big on zippers, however, I would sacrifice my personal preference for these. I tried on the black wedges at the Michael Kors store, but I really love this grape color.

4) My second favorite shoe from Michael Kors has to be the 'Tatum' Oxford. I am obsessed with oxfords. These have all the right elements, a platform, a peep-toe, but they still look expensive and wearable. Having a platform is perfect if you have problems wearing a higher heel. The platform actually acts as a stabilizer for your feet, therefore, when you wear your heels, it will be much more tolerable.

5) Lastly, the Michael Kors Metallic Zip Tote. I love this tote because it is so simple. It doesn't scream that it is a designer handbag, but the shimmery gold color adds a luxurious feel. This tote would be perfect if you're a college student, like myself. It will run you about $198, but if you want to add effortless glamour into your wardrobe, this bag is the one for you.

It is all about being sensible about your purchases. You can still find items from a designer name that are affordable and won't hurt your budget. You will get a taste of luxury, without breaking the bank.

All That Glitters

Sequins have caught my eye this season, especially with the holidays approaching quickly. I have never been one to care for anything with sequins, whatsoever. Let's face it, sequins have not always been a fashionable staple to wear. In certain ways, they can look cheap. Lately, I have been smitten with anything that has glitzy sequins. When it comes to finding clothing with sequin detail, always look for a smaller, closely stitched sequin. There are many stylish sequined dresses, cardigans and tops out there, but only few will fit the bill. If you find anything with beautiful sequin detail, it will more than likely be very expensive. Most items that have embellishments like sequins, are hand made. In my previous post, wearing metallic is a huge trend for holiday fashion. Sequins go along seamlessly into that category and you will certainly find a lot of it this season.

Stylish Scarves

I am really loving scarves at the moment. I used to own one simple black scarf in my closet and now, I must have ten different varieties. Layering is a necessity for fall and a scarf is the perfect accessory to pull any outfit together. One of my favorite styles, is the infinity scarf. I just purchased this this faux-fur infinity scarf from Urban Outfitters. I cannot wait until it gets cooler out, so I can bundle this stylish scarf around my neck!

You can never go wrong with basic black. Wear a black scarf with a motorcycle jacket, white tee and light-wash denim. Or, dress it up with a grey jersey dress. For a finishing touch, add your favorite black scarf for texture. A basic black scarf is so versatile, you will get countless amounts of wearability with this simple accessory.

Mixing prints, like this model shows us, is not only fashionable, but completely wearable. If you want to do something contrary to your normal wardrobe routine, mix an animal print blouse with a geometric shape scarf. Don't get me wrong, mixing prints is not for the meek. Designers like Anna Molinari and Peter Dundas prove with their collections, it is acceptable in many forms. However, approach this trend with caution. It is always best to keep it simple with dark pants, minimal makeup, and almost no jewelry. Let the bold prints take center stage.

A classic leopard scarf will always be a timeless fashion accessory. Leopard print is one of the most popular style scarves for women, simply because it will last you a lifetime. There are multiple sizes, colors and fabrics to choose from. I am positive you will find one that fits your personal style. It is important to wear a leopard scarf as your outfit's key piece. Wear it with creamy neutrals or black. If you want another alternative on how to wear a leopard scarf, tie it on a black satchel or brown tote. Have fun with it! A leopard scarf will add sophistication and femininity to any outfit.

Holiday Fashion

It is my favorite time of the year where anything goes in fashion. During the holidays, there is no harm in doing a little shopping for yourself. Remember these hints when looking for the hottest holiday trends for your upcoming holiday party, office event or family gathering.

All grey
Grey is the new black this autumn season. Wearing all black is a statement in itself, however, wearing all grey will bring a modern sophistication to your everyday look. If you don't want to wear head-to-toe grey, find a great shade of heather grey nail polish or pair a metallic grey sweater dress with opaque tights and flats. Wearing all grey is perfect if you want to keep your look more conservative. Everyone needs a little update to their wardrobe, so why not use this classic alternative that will keep you looking sleek and chic.

Faux fur
Wearing fur is one of the hottest trends for fall. If you don't have a faux fur coat or faux fur vest in your closet, you're missing out. You can achieve this look very easily. Faux fur is available almost anywhere. Pair a faux fur vest with your LBD, add a chunky necklace, a sparkly cocktail ring and the perfect shade of red lipstick to emulate your favorite silver screen siren.

Velvet
If you want a taste of royalty, wearing velvet can make you feel like Queen Elizabeth. Designers like Zac Posen and Alexander Wang have each created collections that were an ode-to-velvet. There is nothing more luxurious than wearing this fabric. The most popular colors to look for are burgundy wine, forest green and midnight blue, which are certainly wearable throughout the fall season. Wear a sleek, velvet dress to a holiday party, or pair a velvet blazer and a gold metallic blouse with dark wide-leg jeans for a girls night. If you still feel intimidated about wearing the velvet trend, try it in small, subtle pieces. Like, an elegant velvet clutch. If you want to slim down your figure, wear velvet trousers with a romantic, jewel tone blouse.

Draping
Again, this season, it is all about details. Goddess gowns, as I call them, are the perfect dress to wear during the holidays. Pair this look with minimal accessories. You only want yourself and the dress to be the center of attention. Not only is this particular style super flattering, it is a look that you can get endless amounts of wearability with.

Sheer & lace
Sheer and lace emerges yet again as one of the most romantic trends for holiday fashion. Try a lace-covered dress with sheer overlay. Pair this with a masculine cream blazer or a fitted pea coat. This look can be tricky to pull off without the proper undergarments, however it is perfect to layer for fall. I am sure this ultra-feminine trend will make a comeback in 2011.

Metallic
This over-the-top fashion statement is quite holiday appropriate. Go basic with your outfit and let the metallic really shine. Look for sequins or metallic embellishments. Wear a blush tone blouse and add a metallic belt with black dress pants. If you do not feel comfortable wearing metallic, try metallic eye-makeup. Add silver shimmer in the corner of your eyes. Mix silver and black together for your shadow to create a sultry, smoky finish.
