Autumn Trends You'll Want To Wear

Some of the greatest fashion trends start in the winter. Fall is full of rich, warm colors, with luxurious fabrics and textures. Expect plenty of new wardrobe staples and modern takes on old ones. Mod 60s and sophisticated 70s inspired wardrobe have always been prevailing no matter what season approaches. 40s and 50s trends are classic and beautiful, for any weather. What was old, is new again. Here are some fall trends that are timeless, chic and easy-to-wear.

Faux fur coats and vests are a 60s inspired trend. Wearing fur can create an edgy look or transform you into a glamorous starlet. You can pair faux fur coats or vests with just about anything in your closet.

Shop for a tailored wardrobe. Look for classic pieces like a simple button down blouse and wide leg trousers or buy some fun accessories like, knee high socks and oxfords. Say goodbye to your skinny jeans, because wide leg trousers have made a strong comeback. This look is great for any time of day and perfect to pair with platforms or ankle boots.

One of the most popular trends seen on almost every catwalk was the camel coat. Also, find a sophisticated cape. A modern take on the poncho, capes come in various forms and are easy-to-wear if you just want to throw something on.

Velvet clothing is a very unexpected option for your wardrobe. This look is extremely versatile. If you want to feel like royalty, wearing velvet can do just that. Swap out your leather coat for a soft velvet blazer. Or, if you don't want to wear a full-on velvet ensemble, velvet headbands or flats are just as cute.

Animal prints have been big fashion faux pas in previous years, but the leopard print has remained strong in 2010. Wearing leopard can add an edgy, yet sophisticated feel. It is always fun and suitable for any time of the year.

Burgundy is the hottest color for fall, in any form. From, wine stained lips or a dark red coat, wearing burgundy is romantic, feminine and is universally flattering on any skin tone.

Big floppy hats or a felt fedora will keep you warm, while keeping you stylish. These hats go with almost anything in your wardrobe. Just keep in mind, it gives off a more casual look so, you will want to stick with neutral tones for fall.

Chunky knits and oversized cardigans are the go-to outerwear for cooler weather. Big sweaters are one of my favorite looks this season. I love the luxurious feel and the comfort factor that sweaters give.

Dress To Invest

We all know the economy has taken a plunge.  So, when it comes to shopping, it is a good idea to invest in items of clothing that you can have forever. This advice is great for women of all age groups. People want quality clothing that will last them a long time. I say, indulge a little when it comes to the price of your clothing. Go to stores like Banana Republic, ZARA, Ann Taylor, BCBG Maxazria, J Crew. You will find all your essential wardrobe staples, made with quality material. These higher end retail stores also carry playful and fun clothing as well. Here are my tips on what to look for on your next shopping adventure.

Blazer- A boyfriend blazer or a fitted blazer. I say fitted, because there are so many blazers that do not have a curve to fit a woman's shape. You don't want to end up looking masculine or boxy. A fitted blazer is more flattering. Any color works. Beige, cream, black or soft nude. Blazers are perfect for chic office attire or worn at night when you just want to wear something over a blouse or dress.

Flats- Flats are crucial to have in your closet. They are a great alternative to sandals and make all the difference in your outfit. Invest in durable flats, with a small heel. This way, they will last you much longer and with the added heel, you can wear them through the day, without pain. Keep in mind, flats go great with anything too.

A classic pair of heels- Platforms, kitten heels, or sky-high stilettos, wearing heels makes an enormous difference in your appearance. All of the sudden your posture is better and your legs look toned. Invest in really good high heels, like from ALDO or Nordstrom.

The LBD "Little Black Dress"- This is the ultimate go-to dress for any girl. Whatever the style may be, find one that you really feel comfortable in and keep it age appropriate. This is a classic piece that can be dressed up or dressed down in so many ways. It is so versatile, elegant, and ultimately, timeless. The LBD is the number one wardrobe essential a woman should invest in.

A nice pair of jeans- Don't pay $50 for jeans that are ripped. Look for dark skinny or wide leg jeans that you can wear with anything.  Find whatever style you feel comfortable in. I personally love high waisted and wide leg jeans. They cover up any imperfections, like slight belly bulge. An added bonus, they are flattering on any size.

Anything that adds a pop of color- Whether it be a handbag or a scarf. Having fun with your wardrobe is what fashion is all about. But, choose your items wisely. A solid fluorescent scarf or a bright red handbag can turn up the volume on any look. Be minimal with your clothing and accessories. Really make the pop of color stand out.

A feminine suit- It is always a good idea to have a suit hanging in your closet. You never know when you might need one. Lately, menswear has been seen all over the runways making the feminine suit hotter than ever.

White button down-  A crisp white button down is right up there with the LBD. I can't even tell you how many ways you can wear a white blouse. It essentially goes with anything from shorts to dress pants.

An alternative to your velour track suit- Leave the track suit for the athletes. Find a sophisticated alternative, like a tank dress made out of cotton or a jersey wrap dress. These are perfect to throw on if you're in a rush. They are comfortable and ladylike.
