Summer Style Guide

Summer is the season to push fashion boundaries. In a good way!

Hot-pants
70s inspired fashion is making a huge comeback this summer. It's time to show off those tan, toned legs with sexy summer shorts. Whether you pair these with knee high socks or platform shoes, you will surely get noticed.

Crochet
Another 70s inspired style. Crochet has been my favorite go-to trend because it is so versatile. Wearing crochet is perfect for any occasion. Dress it up with brown and gold accessories or dress it down and wear it to the beach as a cover-up. As for shoes, pair your crochet outfit with brown gladiator sandals, wood platforms or your favorite pair of clogs. The possibilities are endless with this summer trend.

Jumpsuits and Rompers
Playful jumpsuits and rompers are both equally comfortable and also extremely convertible. They are easy to wear and available in a variety of lengths, patterns and fits. This look isn't for everyone, but on a hot summer day, you will be wishing you had one.

Tie-Dye
Blumarine designer Anna Molinari made tie-dye completely lovable this season. This was my first pick for favorite spring/summer runway show. Bright neon hues and a hippie chic aesthetic, this collection made tie-dye acceptable to wear. We can't forget Proenza Schouler's spring collection that was also an ode to tie-dye luxe knits. This trend may not stick around forever, but one tie-dye shirt or scarf every now and then, won't hurt a bit.

Neutral Colors
Neutral colors are classic and girly. However, this color might not be flattering on everyone. If neutrals don't work for you, try nude pumps, beige trousers or a cream blazer. Mixing and matching different textures and styles will create a sophisticated look that is suitable for any occasion. Keep in mind, neutral tones go seamlessly with any color and will easily match any outfit.

Classic White
White is the quintessential summer color. Clean, crisp white will always be elegant and fashion forward. Basically, you can't go wrong here.

Maxi Skirts
This look is great if you haven't had time to work on tanning those legs! This summer, it's all about non constricting fabrics, so anything that is light and loose. A maxi skirt will go great with a loose blouse or tank for a cute, feminine style.

Sheer Fabric
Underwear is now outerwear. Well, not completely. Leave a little to the imagination! Sheer tops and dresses are seductive and romantic. Pair a sheer top with a blazer and pencil skirt. Perfect for a first date, a girls night out or even working in the office.

In The Moment: Emerald

Emerald is the new turquoise, as far as I'm concerned. Turquoise is my favorite color, but emerald has caught my eye for Summer. I can't help but notice it everywhere! From Oscar de la Renta's Fall runway collection, to smoldering eye makeup, accessories and glistening jewelry. Wearing green is not just for St. Patrick's Day any longer, you can sport this beautiful color all year round. Emerald comes in many shades, even blue hues, which will certainly add a bit of elegance to your outfit. Plus, it's flattering on any skin tone. Emerald is a timeless color that you shouldn't think twice about adding to your Summer wardrobe.

Chanel

I cannot think of one runway show I would have rather attended than the unveiling of Karl Lagerfeld's Chanel Cruise collection. Karl took over the town of Saint Tropez and turned the city streets into a high fashion runway. The models arrived in style, riding in a convoy of motor-cruisers. Natasha Poly was the first to grace down the runway, casually holding her sandals. His collection was an ode to seventies fashion, which featured flared corduroy trousers, brown floppy hats, crocheted cover-ups, hot-pants, watercolor maxi-dresses and bikinis redesigned to resemble something Brigitte Bardot would wear. The models, with their wavy beach hair, barely-there make-up, (walking barefoot nonetheless), looked casual and comfortable. Lucky onlookers watched from their balconies and yachts. It seemed like a really fun show. But, Karl Lagerfeld didn't stop there. He created a short feature film in honor of his collection called, "Remember Now." The film is oozing with sex appeal, models partying until the break of dawn and sheer lavishness, which fits seamlessly into the quintessential Saint Tropez lifestyle.

Alessandra Ambrosio: MET Ball Muse

Victoria's Secret angel Alessandra Ambrosio wore a Versace gown to the annual Costume Institute Gala, with diamond drop earrings by the amazing Martin Katz. For fashionistas, the Metropolitan Museum's "American Woman: Fashionising a National Identity," is the real proving ground for how fashionable you truly are. I love the old hollywood glamour aura Alessandra possesses with her ensemble. It was simple, classic and elegant. However, she still managed to keep it modern, with cut-outs on the side and back of her dress. By far, my favorite of the night!
