Fashion Gone Rogue

Eco-Chic Fashion

Hopefully, you all know that this month is Earth Month. Going "green" has definitely become more and more popular over the last few years. Recycling plastic bottles, using energy efficient light bulbs, taking shorter showers to reduce water usage and maybe even riding a bike to work or school. These are just some examples of what you can do to help the environment and how you can live a green lifestyle. But, when it comes to fashion? I know, how can you be eco-friendly with fashion? One way is to, think before you buy. Invest in clothing that is not super trendy. For example, buy one staple item, like a simple black dress and accessorize with pieces you already have. Don't worry about what's "in" and go for timeless pieces that you can get usage out of. Go shopping in your closet! You will save a lot of time and money. Another way to be eco-friendly with fashion, is to shop vintage. I know, sometimes people are grossed out by shopping at a consignment store or flea market, but every once in awhile, you will stumble across something unique and for a really great price. Mix and match your expensive brands with cheap ones. Lastly, do some research and consider eco-friendly fashion lines. I discovered Mary Meyer, who designs luxury handbags from old leather jackets. She is inspired by 60s and 70s fashion, which makes me adore her designs even more. Every bag is handmade, one-of-a-kind, with it's own unique color and design. I am a huge clutch fan, as opposed to handbags. My favorite has to be her Hudson clutch, seen below. However, all of her bags are amazing and have the luxurious feel of an expensive bag, but without the wasteful manufacturing process. Numerous celebrities have already been spotted toting around her adorable studded handbags and clutches. Here is her blog, http://novellaroyale.com/. Check it out and get inspired to go green this month!

Style Icon

If you aren't familiar with New York socialite, Olivia Palermo, pay extra attention! She is my style icon for various reasons. Of course, her polished appearance and gorgeous features have helped her claim to fame, however her style is impeccable. Working for Diane Von Furstenburg, definitely gives her an advantage! Olivia is known for blending inexpensive pieces with high-end brands. She is dressed to the nines wherever she goes, whether she is attending an event or frolicking around town with her man. The city streets are her runway. That's why I love her, because there is no excuse why you shouldn't look glamorous every day, right? Olivia keeps her style simple, but occasionally changes it up by mixing different patterns, wearing bright neon pumps, fur vests, or liquid leggings. Palermo's choice of statement jewelry are also noteworthy. She even has a line of bib necklaces ranging from $100 to $300.
I think she is adorable! Her handsome arm candy isn't too shabby either...
